HJF is seeking a Project Coordinator to support the Consortium for Health and Military Performance (CHAMP) in the Department of Military and Emergency Medicine (MEM) at Uniformed Services University for the Health Sciences (USUHS) in Bethesda, Maryland. HJF provides scientific, technical and programmatic support services to MEM. Responsible for coordinating all aspects of nutrition research study at selected military installations/research sites, with supervision from Performance Nutrition Director.  As part of coordination, responsible to communicate with study sites; schedule and conduct trainings; provide remote and hands-on assistance with implementation of program at study sites; closely monitor program milestones for completion on time. Projects include but are not exclusive to: Operation Live Well and Teaching Kitchen.

Responsible for conducting literature reviews on topics related to total force fitness (TFF) and human performance optimization (HPO). Responsible for assisting Performance Nutrition Director in preparing presentations, manuscripts and posters for Teaching Kitchen research study and other HPO research projects.


1.   Coordinates all aspects program implementation, as part of research study at select military installations.

2. Serves as consultant to research sites on implementation of program for research study.

3. Represents CHAMP and projects on planning bodies and committees.

4. Conducts Program Fidelity Assessments at selected research sites.

5. Schedules and conduct trainings for staff at selected research sites.

6. Tracks program activities for compliance with program requirements and timeliness. Gather and analyze information pertaining to challenges and successes of implementation, overall compliance with program requirements; and, develop and monitor data collection systems.

7. Actively engage with stakeholders at research sites (remotely and via site visits) provide proposed solutions and assists research sites in meeting project milestones on time.

8. Creates new trainings and program resources for use at research sites, using PowerPoint, Word, Excel and web-hosted platforms.

9. Perform extensive research and compiling of PubMed articles on Total Force Fitness (TFF) Human Performance Optimization (HPO) and nutrition topics. Assists in analyzing, interpreting, and summarizing literature trends for program improvements and manuscript preparations.

10. Assists the Performance Nutrition Director in writing and editing papers for publication in technical and peer-reviewed journals based on experimental results.

11. Creates Scientific posters and PowerPoint presentations for presentation by Director of Performance Nutrition at professional meetings.

12. Provides administrative support to the nutrition program and research studies though: meeting planning, recording meeting minutes, distributing supplies to research sites, coordinating printing of training manuals, and resources for program recipients.

13. Writes and edits resources with program related guidance for study sites.

14. Assists CHAMP on outreach efforts. Works as a team member with education and research staff.

15. Aid other staff members interpret literature.

16. Performs other duties as needed

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Thorough knowledge of community based health promotion approaches and behavior change theory; project coordination skills; excellent interpersonal and communication skills; proficiency with word, power point and PubMed.

Minimum Education/Training Requirements: Master's degree in Public Health or similar/related degree.

Minimum Experience:  2 years’ experience as a Project Coordinator, Research Assistant or similar for community-based studies.

Work Environment:  Office
