HJF is seeking an Informatics Core Director for the Center for Neuroscience and Regenerative Medicine (CNRM) located in Bethesda / Rockville MD. HJF provides scientific, technical and programmatic support services to CNRM. The CNRM was established as a collaborative intramural federal program involving the U.S. Department of Defense and the National Institutes of Health, developed to bring together the expertise of clinicians and scientists across disciplines to catalyze innovative approaches to traumatic brain injury (TBI) research. CNRM study investigators are involved in preclinical, clinical, and population-based TBI research. Diverse study protocols include collection of imaging data, psychological and neurocognitive assessments, biomarkers, and genetic data. This interdisciplinary position offers excellent potential for research collaboration.

The Informatics Core Director oversees a combined Core team that includes data management and statistical support for CNRM research studies.  Responsibilities will include analytic support on various types of research projects involving clinical data (for example, observational studies and clinical trials), collaborating with investigators in the design of research studies and methodologies; running analytical reports and statistics; working with investigators to validate, troubleshoot and interpret results; actively participate with investigators in discussions to identify key areas and priorities for data support  and assist with design solutions. Approximately 50% of the Core Director duties will involve supervisory or other managerial responsibilities. The Core Director reports to the CNRM Informatics Core Principal Investigator.


  1. Work with investigators to develop advanced analytic plans and data modeling strategies.
  2. Proactively identify collaborative opportunities within CNRM.
  3. Identify new technologies, data analysis methods, statistical software, and modeling tools that are relevant to the CNRM mission and the specific needs of ongoing and future research protocols.
  4. Participate with CNRM investigators in discussions to identify key areas and priorities related to informatics core activities
  5. Serve as supervisor for junior staff members.
  6. Provide updates and participate in Core planning with CNRM Informatics Core Principal Investigators.
  7. Completes other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Familiarity with study design and methodology issues. Awareness of data quality issues and data repository management. Substantial experience with biostatistical programming in a research environment. Interest or experience in neuroscience research, supervisory experience highly desirable. Excellent interpersonal skills. US Citizenship required.

Minimum Education/Training Requirements: PhD in a relevant quantitative research field (epidemiology, biostatistics, etc.).

Minimum Experience: 8+ year’s relevant experience in a research environment.

Physical Capabilities: Ability to sit for prolonged periods of time at a computer and/or desk; ability to move within the worksite and well as travel to other research sites

Supervisory Responsibilities/Controls: Will supervise a team of approximately 5 data scientists / data support personnel
