HJF is seeking a Site Principal Investigator/Physician for the Operational Infectious Disease Program located at the Naval Health Research Center (NHRC) in San Diego, California.  HJF provides scientific, technical and programmatic support services to NHRC.

Responsibilities: Must have experience in working and/or managing research projects, including scientific and technical experience in Public Health with specific expertise in the study, analysis, evaluation, assessment or interpretation of information relevant to this study. Specific responsibilities/requirements include:

  1. Currently licensed physician (MD or DO) with unrestricted license in Illinois with a minimum of six years clinical experience. Must have experience in conducting FDA sanctioned human clinical trials.
  2. Knowledge of clinical research administration and vaccine trials.
  3. Familiarity with federal and state regulations particularly regarding the protection of human subjects in biomedical research.
  4. Must be able to work independently and in a team setting.
  5. Must have excellent communication, organization, and prioritization skills.
  6. Must possess excellent writing and verbal skills, strong problem solving and decision making skills.
  7. Responsible for all aspects of implementation of NOR D211 at the Great Lakes site and acts as the main point of contact for the site. Will be named on FDA form 1572.
  8. Lead project through final implementation, including development of detailed work plans, schedules, and status reports.
  9. Supervise and provide guidance of all contract personnel, research services and support according to the NOR D211 study objectives and outcomes.
  10. Ensure adherence to quality standards and good clinical practices.
  11. Maintain current knowledge related to the NOR D211 study and all related clinical guidelines.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Thorough knowledge of clinical medicine and the procedures and techniques necessary for performing research tasks; knowledge of medical science and the development of clinical research programs; experience in the design of clinical research trials; ability to communicate effectively; ability to make effective presentations and publish; excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills.

Minimum Education /Training Requirements: M.D. or D.O. degree.

Minimum Experience:  Six or more years of related experience.

Physical Capabilities:  Bending, standing, and sitting.

Required Licenses. Certification or Registration: Licensure to practice medicine in the state of Illinois; Board certified or board eligible for certification in the specialty associated with the clinical research program.

Supervisory Responsibilities /Controls:  May supervise clinicians, scientists, researchers or medical support staff.

Work Environment:  Hospital, clinic or office environment.
